This is our very last window installation and we would love your help!

This year’s Easter window, “Follow the White Rabbit…”, will be the last window to be created here at sarbe. After 8 and a half years, we will be closing sarbe’s shop-front to focus on other exciting ventures we have been working on. Don’t fret we will still have our online store, so please continue to follow and share with us! You can read more about it in Sarah’s blog post here, but now back to the amazing window we have planned…

The sarbe window has been by far one of our favourite projects to tackle each month, and looking back at the past displays brings back fond memories of endless ideas being bounced back and forth, colour choices, technical problems and meeting deadlines. So, in celebration of the new changes as well as the many wonderful people we have befriended over the years, we thought it fitting to invite you, our community, to help us with our final window.

Our inspiration comes from Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, and who could have a tea party without teacups? We have hundreds of teacups we need to decorate and assemble so we’re calling on craft volunteers to help us decorate as many teacups as possible! You have the option to come and craft in store or you can also craft at home. Here’s an example of what we’ll be creating…

CLICK HERE to download the free printable template!

- Crafting in Store -

We will be hosting volunteer crafting sessions at sarbe from 10am – 2pm every Saturday in March:

Saturday 8th March: 10am – 2pm
Saturday 15th March: 10am – 2pm

You’re welcome to come craft with us on any of these days, and you can come and go at any time (no need to stay for the entire session). Please send an email to mail@sarbe.com.au if you are interested in joining one (or more!) of these sessions, then we can make sure we have enough space and supplies for everyone.

- Crafting at Home -

Can’t make it down to the store? No worries! Download the Teacup Template to print at home, then cut out and decorate however you wish! All we ask is that you stick to the colours in the palette below. We’ll be adding the handles and bases in store, so all you need to worry about is decorating the cup itself. If you can drop your decorated teacups in store then you can glue the cup together, otherwise if you are posting them it will probably be easiest to keep them flat to send to us. Decorated teacups need to be received in store by Friday 28th March.
For those sending them in, please post the flat decorated teacups to:

In preparation for our newest window display I have been getting messy with Papier-mâché! If you have been in store this week you may have seen our new window! Eight hot air balloons, each hand made using balloons, newspaper, Japanese Washi Paper and a lot of glue! While I was making these, it took me back to the days in primary school when I was first introduced to this creative method of art. We spent a whole week coating balloons in newspaper, painting them and added bits and pieces to create our very own little piggy bank!

With this fond memory, I went rummaging through all my old things and look who I found!

Here is my little creation from grade 3 and I love that 13 years later I am still using the same methods of papier-mâché for my own projects. Papier-mâché is a great foundation for any physical 3D project you may be working on as it creates a base framework from where you can expand your model by sculpting a more defined shape, adding embellishments and other decorative features or simply just painting it to create your desired effect. Papier-mâché is commonly used today to make face masks or piñatas, but in the past, before we had access to plastics and moulds, this form of art was used to create parade floats, set designs for theatre productions and also used in the process of making puppets.

This little project also got me thinking about what other amazing things you can create with this basic foundation! In my search I found this awesome armchair designed and created by Majid Asif. With 120 layers of newspaper built up over the mould of an inflatable chair, this art piece displays a very innovative and creative way to up cycle old newspapers!

Such an amazing work of art, but you don’t have to go to this extreme to play with papier-mâché! Click on the images below to find a few tutorials on different things you can make at home! If the kids are complaining about being bored, this is a great activity that will keep them occupied for hours!

So it seems that all my blog posts are revolving around my trip to Korea, and here I go again! Seoul is a great city for shopping if you love cute Asian inspired things! Almost every store had their beauty and accessories sections where I found and fell in love with bows! They’re just the perfect little addition to my crazy hairstyle! In my shopping adventure I picked up quite a few different colours and styles and since returning home, have not gone a day without putting a cute little bow in my hair! I just love them so much!

Hi there and welcome back! As you may have read last week, I recently did a little trip to South Korea and discovered an awesome little store called Artbox, where I went a little crazy and purchased quite a fair amount of stationery. Not only did I adore the kawaii designs of these Korean products, but also, personally, I tend to write a lot, whether it’s new ideas for upcoming projects, fresh designs I want to work on for my portfolio or even just my everyday ‘to-do’ list, wherever I go, I will always have a notepad and pen on hand. So even though I did splurge a little, it will definitely all go to good use!

In this collection, along with notepads, planners and journals I had also bought these adorable little paper clips/marking clips which I had planned to use to help organise each of my new books. When writing, I often divide my book into sections to help me decipher between each of my projects and it also helps to keep everything neat and tidy. To do so, I use dividers (like tabs) to split each section, making it easier to flick from page to page. So I bought these colourful clips! But on my return home, I ended up giving them all away as souvenirs and now had to think of a new way to organise myself.

I considered creating tabs, but they seemed too ordinary and not as cute as what the clips could have been. So I did a little hunting on Pinterest, an awesome creative hub filled with amazing ideas and inspiration! And this is where I came across these little origami bookmarks! One glance and I knew they were perfect for what I was trying to achieve. There are many different styles that you can create, so I only picked out a couple to share with you today. As my notepads already have the cute designs and colour schemes, I thought I’d keep my dividers simple and just focus on the colours to match each book. This tutorial will teach you the basics, but once you have mastered the folding technique, you can decorate these little bookmarks however your heart desires!

They’re so quick and easy! Simply follow these instructions and soon you’ll be able to keep all your notebooks and journals organised too!

While I was making these, I also did a little playing and found that these look even cuter when you cut the tips off of the triangles! See below for the alternate way of creating these corner book tabs.

Hi there! My name is Manda and welcome to my world of creativity! Here you will find a mixture of the things I love, places I have visited and little projects that I can’t wait to share with you! All my life I have had a great passion for arts and crafts and there is never a moment that I don’t have something on the go whether it’s a gift for a friend, décor for my own home or an irresistibly cute DIY I found on Pinterest! So feel free to visit my blog regularly for your little dose of inspiration!

Just recently, I travelled to Seoul, South Korea on an adventure to gain inspiration and ideas for my next line of projects. In my travels I stumbled across the cutest stationery store I have ever walked into! It was filled with notepads, journals, diaries and calenders, a wide variety of pens and pencils, adorable little gift cards, writing sets and great gift ideas! What is this place? It’s called Artbox! And you will find this little store around almost every corner throughout Seoul.

Artbox stocks over 50 brands of kawaii products and in the 30 years that they have been running, have expanded their stores internationally with over 200 retail outlets world wide. Locations include London, Moscow, Singapore, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Lima, Hawaii, California, Vancouver and of course Korea! They also have an online store and can ship internationally! So check it out and you may just fall in love… Alternately you can ‘like’ them on facebook and keep up-to-date with all their latest products and sales!

Here are just a few of the little treasures that I found on my journey:

Each of their designs are just so cute, yet so simple! If you know me, you’ll know how much I love my bright colours and cartoon styled designs which made this store very dangerous for me to walk into! So much money spent, but definitely worth it! If you do ever get a chance to travel to any of the cities where Artbox is located, make sure you go in and have a look! You won’t regret it! (or maybe you will, and you’ll hate me forever for introducing you to the cutest store ever!)

Hope you all have a great weekend! Happy Shopping!
