We have an assortment of handcrafted teacups with ribbons, drawings, paint splatters and paper collages of all shapes and colours. Look in our window and you’ll also see beautiful paper flowers, mini toadstools, a bright pink flamingo, vertical hanging gardens, a quirky blue teapot and the famous white rabbit with his gold pocket watch – bringing all the elements together to create the magical Alice inspired display
for our final window installation!

Paper Flower Bouquet - Kids Craft Club

Kids will learn a variety of techniques to create a colourful bouquet of paper flowers! Great as a stunning feature on the table at Easter or a lovely handmade Easter gift.

Materials:
- Alex Mae Tree of Love Laser-cut card + Kraft Envelope (also available in white)
- Alex Mae POCKETme Kraft 154mm
- Double-sided tape (we used Alex Mae’s STICKme 9mm x 25M)
- Cream board, printed with your choice of words/images, cut to 148mm x 148mm
- Patterned paper of your choice, cut to 148mm x 148mm (we used Greenwich in Spring matte paper)

Firstly, attach the pocket using double sided tape by folding the tabs and adhere to the left-hand side of the folded card (laser-cut side). We recommend leaving it overnight under something heavy for it to cure. Slip the patterned paper inside the pocket and use the tape to secure the top of the paper to the card. On the opposite side (blank-side), adhere the board with your pre-printed text (or hand-written message if you like the more personal touch!). Insert your disc, pop it in an envelope and it’s ready to be sent off to it’s new home!

1. Where are you from and how long have you been living on the Gold Coast?
I’m from Japan and I’ve been living on the Gold Coast for 12 years.

2. Where is your favourite spot on the Coast and why? 
Coolangatta beach. I enjoy walking around to Snapper.

3. Describe your products in three words. 
Soft, colourful, cute.

4. Why did you start to make what you do?
Kids’ enjoyment.

5. Did you get formal training in your art? (where/why/why not…would you?)
No, it’s a personal hobby.

6. Describe your studio – where is it, what do you like most about it?
I do sewing at home in the lounge room studio.

7. What is on your ‘workbench’/desk right now? 
Material, scissors, sewing kit.

8. What does your working day look like? (as a designer/maker) 
When I have spare time, I sew.

9. What/who inspires you the most?
My mother and grandmother

10. From all the products you have made/are making or will be making, which is your favourite and why?
My favourite are the felt cakes, because I enjoy decorating them.

11. Any advice to other local makers?
Enjoy what you do!

There’s something special about this time of year - something about it takes us back to days at the beach, good times with family and friends, relaxing (or stressful!)  get-aways and gifts both given and received. We love how it’s so inclusive of the whole family, especially the kids!

We are thrilled to see Dailylike post a sweet DIY Advent Project to help count down the days until Christmas. They have even got a template for you to download and start creating with a few sheets of paper and Fabric Tape. Don’t forget to check out our previous post on other uses for Fabric Tape – it has become a craft essential! Grab your kids (or friends), get crafty and make the final days of 2013 count!!

1. Seal it
Add an extra touch by sealing your envelope with a strip of Fabric Tape! This is a perfect way to avoid paper cuts, dry mouths and yucky after tastes, and using a bit of tape ensures important pieces of information stays inside the envelope.

2. Dress it up
It’s all in the details – including the food! We’ve used little toothpicks, but you can use them on  skewers and straws for your muffins/cupcakes/cakes/canapés/drink glasses….

3. Spruce it up
Take a (boring) tag, tape it up and get a cute (and easy) tag! We’ve done a few – they’re perfect for weddings and events as a cute way to display seating.

4. Label it
Take your bonbonnieres to another level and personalise them using the pretty tapes! Whether it’s to tie in with your colours or show ownership of the favours, you really can’t go wrong with a strip of tape.

All of the Coast! I would not like to live anywhere else.

I’ll paint anything!

I love to paint and create, always have, ever since I could remember.

I have no training, I just really love to paint. But, I would always like to learn more.

My garage is my studio, I can get paint everywhere and it doesn’t matter, though I could do with more light.

7. What is on your ‘workbench’/desk right now?
My desk is always covered in paints, pens and brushes.

8. What does your working day look like? (as a designer/maker)
When I start on a painting, I could do it all day.

9. What/who inspires you the most?
Volunteering for Gold Coast Art Centre inspires me the most. I see a lot of art and meet all sorts of people.

10. From all the products you have made/are making or will be making, which is your favourite and why?
I love most of my paintings! I love the pleasure they give me.

11. Any advice to other local makers?
Always believe in yourself.
