How To: DIY Paper Flowers

Spring is just around the corner and we can’t wait! Here’s a DIY inspired by Creative Bug who does a few different versions to make a paper bouquet. We’ve tweaked it a little bit, used twigs/branches for ours. It’s quite easy to customise this tutorial to make flowers in all shapes and forms!

Gather your supplies!
You will need:
- Scissors
- Twigs/branches
- Paper (You can use any kind of paper – a medium stock would be best, thin enough to crumple but thick enough to hold its shape. We up-cycled some Japanese paper from a previous project – the paper is amazing and looks so pretty!)
- Double sided sticky tape
- Glue/Hot glue gun + Fabric Tape (optional, depending on how well your paper holds with the tape)
Step 1:
Select a twig or branch which lies in a position you are happy with. Try select one with ends which stick upwards as you will be attaching the flowers on those.

Step 2:
Cut a long strip of paper contrasting to the colours of your petals to make the centre of your flower.
Make small cuts along one side but leave enough space to stick your tape on (We folded the paper over a few times before cutting to save time).

Step 3:
Using the double sided sticky tape, wrap your paper around the end of a twig, making sure the loose strips are facing up, and that the paper hides the end of the twig.

Step 4:
Cut up some petals! Essentially you want to cut pieces that look like wavy-edged pyramids.
Cut them out in a few sizes - you’ll get a feel for how they work after you make your first one. We used 5 – 6 petals per flower.

Step 5:
Place a strip of double sided sticky tape onto the base of one of the smaller petals. Attach the petal to the twig – you want to be ‘pinching’ the petal on.

Step 6:
Repeat step 5, going around to cover the centre piece. Continue to do so, using bigger petals as you go.
Step 7:
We have these pretty leaves in-store to do all sorts of crafts, but you can make your own using green paper – here’s how to fold them to give them a more 3-d look:

We placed a few on the twig using quick dry adhesive (hot glue gun would work fine)

Ta-da!
